First impressions are everything in the modeling world, and your digital snapshots (often called "digitals" or "polas") are your most important tool. Agencies use these raw, unedited photos to see your natural look and potential.
To help you nail your shoot, we’ve put together a comprehensive preparation guide based on industry standards.

The goal of digitals is "less is more." Here’s a deeper look at why these guidelines are so important for your modeling career:
1. Hair: Clean and Versatile Agencies want to see the health and texture of your hair. Avoid "prom hair" or overly styled looks. By starting with your hair down and then pulling it up, you provide the agent with two distinct looks—showing off both your hair length and your facial structure/jawline.
2. Makeup: The "No-Makeup" Look This is the most common mistake models make. Agents aren't looking for your makeup skills; they are looking for your skin quality and bone structure. Highlighting a blemish with heavy foundation often makes it more noticeable. Embrace your "flaws"—freckles and natural skin texture are highly valued in the industry.
3. Nails: Neutral is Key Bright red or neon nails draw the eye away from your face and body. The goal is to keep the focus entirely on you. If you don't want to go completely bare, stick to a sheer nude that blends in with your skin tone.
4. Wardrobe: Simple and Form-Fitting Your clothing should act as a frame for your body, not the main attraction. Simple, form-fitting basics like a black tank and skinny jeans allow scouts to see your proportions clearly. Avoid trendy washes or ripped denim, as these can date the photos quickly.
5. Physical Wellness No amount of lighting can replace the glow of a well-rested, hydrated person. Salt and lack of sleep lead to water retention and puffiness, especially around the eyes. Start drinking extra water at least 48 hours before your shoot to ensure your skin looks its best.
